In the 2016-17 season Red Circle Hockey Development continued its partnership with Total Package Hockey (TPH) and for the third year in a row we had a TPH instructor attend 3 house league practices over the course of the season with the intent of helping teach our coaches as well as our players.

This took place in the Tyke, Novice, Atom and Peewee Divisions. Each practice there were 6-7 drills shared by email that could be used in future practices and 5 of them would have been implemented at the practice.  That means that over 600 skaters and 80 coaches on 40 teams had a chance to learn from TPH.

We introduced individual 'pay as you go' clinics this season and they were very successful. We offered 25 clinics over the course of the season and had 595 registrations and had 260 of our players register for at least one clinic. These were offered from the ages of Tyke to Midget and we had about 1 of every 3 players in the Peewee and Novice divisions register for one clinic and 41% of our Atom and 43% of our Tyke players took one.

We offered three different styles of clinics, we started with Power Skating (13 clinics offered) and then moved into clinics aimed at Defensemen  (4 offered)  and then finished off with Offense clinics (8 offered)with the focus on shooting as well as stick handling and passing drills. These clinics cost $10 for the power skating and $15 for the defense or offense clinics. TPH had 2-3 instructors on the ice and we encouraged some of our coaches to go on the ice as well.

We also offered more goalie clinics this season as this was something that we had heard a lot of feedback on and we will continue to find ways to improve how we handle our goalies in practices as well as offer them specialized clinics.

We will be collecting feedback via Survey Monkey about these  Player and Goalie clinics but they will be returning in some shape or form for the 2017-18 season as will our partnership with TPH at team practices. We will also be working on creating new to coaching packages for our new coaches to better support them in setting up plans to help their players develop the core skills needed for hockey.
