What is Red Circle Hockey Club?

Red Circle Hockey Club is a co-ed house league program offering ice 2 times per week for players from 4 to 20 years old. All divisions except for U7 play games on Full Ice. We have no residential boundaries, so everyone is welcome to play within our league. Ice times are consistent each week and announced at the start of the season. (e.g., U7: Saturday & Sunday mornings; U15: Tuesday & Saturday evenings).

Our motto is “Equal Opportunity Regardless of Ability”. All players receive equal ice time regardless of experience. If you are a first-time skater, first-time hockey player or a player who has been playing hockey for years, you will receive the same amount of ice time.

    Division Information

    U7 Division (4-6 years)

This is our introduction program and is set up to get the child comfortable and confident on skates. It is designed to get them having fun and enjoying the game of hockey. This is a half ice program.

    • 2 ice times/week: Saturday & Sunday mornings
    • Evaluations are held at the beginning of each season. The players will be split into two groups (green/red dots):
      • Red Dots: beginners players with minimal or no skating ability. Focusing primarily on development. Will share the ice with up to 4 teams. Red dots will transition to 2 teams per ice and games in the second half of the season.
      • Green Dots: more advance players, often with 1-3 years of playing history. Will share the ice with one other team. Green dots will transition to games sooner than red dots.
    • Jerseys and socks sponsored by Tim Hortons

    U9 Division (7-8 years)

This is the year that players are introduced to full ice hockey for games. Confident, building skills and learning the rules of the game all while having fun! More focus is given to technical aspects of the game (offsides, icing, clearing the puck) while building on skills. Games are played with a 3 minute buzzer for line changes.

    • 2 ice times/week: 1 practice (half ice), 1 game (full ice). Saturday & Sunday
    • Team socks.
    • Loaned jerseys.
    • Rotating goalies if no dedicated goalie.

    U11 Division (9-10 years)

At this age level we begin to work on learning plays, how to read them and how to execute them. In U11, players will learn to change on the fly instead of by a buzzer system.

    • 2 ice times/week: 1 practice (half ice), 1 game (full ice).
    • Team socks.
    • Loaned jerseys.

    U13 Division (11-12 years)

At this age level, the players are working on basic power plays and penalty kills. The players often work on their skating, edge work and shooting. The spirit is more apparent with team building at the forefront.

    • 2 ice times/week: 1 practice (half ice), 1 game (full ice).
    • Team socks.
    • Loaned jerseys.

*Slight modifications to ice times may be required based on the number of teams in the division.

    U15 Division (13-14 years)

Players start to learn advanced plays, develop strength and conditioning, and focus on team dynamics and leadership.

    • 2 ice times/week: 2 games to 1 half ice practice rotation.
    • Team socks.
    • Loaned jerseys.

*Slight modifications to ice times may be required based on the number of teams in the division.

    U17 Division (15-16 years)

We encourage this age group to further refine skills. The focus is on learning new exciting drills and unique plays with emphasis on game strategy.

    • 2 ice times/week: all games with 1 practice at end of month.
    • Team socks.
    • Loaned jerseys.

*Slight modifications to ice times may be required based on the number of teams in the division.

    U21 Division (17-20 years)

We are proud to still offer hockey to this age group. It can be hard for them to still find a place to play the game they love. Many of the U21 players volunteer within our league and become coaches as well.

    • 2 ice times/week: all games with 1 practice at end of month.
    • Team socks.
    • Loaned jerseys.

*Slight modifications to ice times may be required based on the number of teams in the division.
