What Is Red Circle U7 Hockey All About?

Is your child 4–6 years of age and interested in playing hockey? Red Circle is the perfect place to start.

Program Structure

Our U7 division is divided into two groups based on players’ abilities.

  • East Division (Red Dot): Begins the season playing half-ice and transitions to three-quarter ice in January.
  • West Division (Green Dot): Plays full ice from the start of the season.

We are one of the few organizations that offer full-ice hockey at the U7 level. Players love skating the entire ice surface, which helps develop both skating confidence and overall hockey skills.

Ice Schedule

Players receive two ice times per week. Typically, this includes a practice on Saturday and a game on Sunday. Occasionally, schedules may change due to ice availability, but all changes are communicated well in advance.

Development Focus

We offer development clinics specifically designed for U7 players. These clinics focus on skating, hockey fundamentals, and basic goalie skills, and are tailored to each East or West division.

If your child is unable to skate at the beginning of the season, we still encourage you to register for the hockey season. Our coaches work closely with every player, and we consistently see tremendous improvement from the first ice session to the last.

Goalie Rotation & Clinics

In the West Division, players rotate through the goalie position each game. Each team is provided with a full set of goalie equipment, including a trapper, blocker, shoulder pads, pads, and stick, ensuring every player has the opportunity to try playing net.

Dedicated U7 goalie clinics are also offered so players can learn basic goalie skills in a fun, low-pressure environment.

Beginning in January, the East Division will also rotate a player into the goalie position each game using smaller, lighter goalie equipment designed for young players.

Special Events & Experiences

Throughout the season, we host several exciting events, including Skate with Santa, Kuddles for Kids, and our RCAT Tournament. These events reinforce that U7 hockey is about fun, development, and positive experiences.

In past seasons, players have also enjoyed intermission skates with the London Knights, and we hope to continue this tradition moving forward.

A Family-Oriented Environment

The U7 division is a unique and family-focused program. We encourage cheering for both teams, supporting one another, and helping players try their best.

U7 hockey is not about wins, losses, or goal totals — it’s about having fun, learning the game, and making new friends.
